Departure from Europe. Arrival in Bogota.
GUATAVITA – an excursion to the mystical Guatavita Lagoon, shrouded in legends of the mythical golden kingdom of El Dorado. It was precisely this tale of indigenous gold that, for centuries, drew adventurers from around the world to this very spot.
SALT CATHEDRAL – a visit to the unique cathedral in Zipaquirá, built deep within the chambers of a former salt mine. The monumental underground spaces, the interplay of light and shadow, and the precisely carved chapels create an unforgettable atmosphere. Return to Bogota.
CERRO DE MONSERRATE – a panoramic view of the “endless” capital city of the country from the summit of Monserrate Hill.
BOGOTA – the pulsating metropolis of Colombia, sprawling in a valley at nearly the same altitude as our Gerlach Peak. The historic colonial quarter of La Candelaria, with its maze of narrow streets, colorful facades, and balconies of old Bogota. Plaza Bolívar – the center of political and social life.
Those interested can visit the Gold Museum – the finest on the American continent, housing a wealth of artifacts from pre-Columbian civilizations.
Flight to Pereira and transfer to Salento.
SALENTO – a typical mountain town that, more than others in the region, has preserved its historical charm. The area is one of the main coffee-growing zones in Colombia. Visit to a local farmstead, with a demonstration of coffee cultivation and processing.
VALLE DE COCORA – an attractive valley dotted with numerous wax palms, one of Colombia’s most iconic natural sites. These palms, reaching heights of up to 60 meters, are the tallest in the world, are a local endemic species, and serve as Colombia’s national tree. The valley lies within Los Nevados National Park and offers not only stunning views but also opportunities for additional activities.
Flight to Medellin.
MEDELLÍN – a dynamic and modern city also known as the “city of eternal spring.” Colombia’s second-largest city has undergone a remarkable transformation in recent decades – from a place associated with Pablo Escobar’s drug cartel, it has become a symbol of progress, culture, and urban development.
Today, it is the country’s largest industrial center and the only city in Colombia with a metro system, complemented by a unique cable-car network linking peripheral neighborhoods to the city center. Medellín is also known for its vibrant nightlife, an integral part of Latin American culture.
LAGUNA GUATAPÉ – a unique landscape reminiscent of Norwegian fjords. A picturesque area full of greenery and water, where a vast lagoon dotted with numerous islets stretches among the hills. The area’s dominant feature is the massive rock monolith Piedra del Peñol, which can be climbed via more than 700 steps. The ascent rewards visitors with a breathtaking panoramic view.
Flight to Santa Marta, accommodation in Taganga or Santa Marta (depending on current availability). First contact with the Caribbean.
TAYRONA NATIONAL PARK – an excursion to one of Colombia’s most beautiful national parks. A unique combination of tropical rainforest, untouched beaches, granite rock formations, and mangrove forests. A trek through the rainforest on foot, observing diverse fauna and flora, and iconic palm-fringed beaches. Tayrona is not only a natural park but also a territory of historical significance for indigenous tribes.
Transfer to Cartagena.
CARTAGENA – the pearl of the Caribbean, a city with an unforgettable atmosphere where colonial history blends with vibrant tropical life. In the past, it was a key city of Spanish power in Latin America and a frequent target of pirate attacks. Today, it ranks among Colombia’s most visited and beautiful cities.
The well-preserved historic center features colorful houses, balconies overflowing with flowers, and lively squares. The impressive San Felipe Fortress, the intact city walls overlooking the Caribbean Sea, and the former slave market stand as living reminders of Cartagena’s bygone glory.
