years of traveling
The founders of navrátil.travel are two passionate travelers — Peter Dosedla and Jiří Krška, who have traveled to almost all countries in the world, and who have decided to reshape their passion into a business.
The third team member is Martin Navrátil, one of Slovakia’s most renowned travelers, who serves as the professional expert on all trips. Martin is a qualified historian and has been dedicated to traveling since 1997. Professionally, he began working as a tour guide since 2000, and in 2015, he founded the travel agency Travelistan. He prepared and carried out several unique Slovak first-expeditions — including crossing the African Congo, a winter trek across Chukotka, and the first Slovak voyage along the Silk Road from Venice to Beijing.
His most media-publicized and demanding expedition was his journey from the coast of Antarctica to the South Pole over the 2022/23 turn of the year. Martin has extensive guiding experience — having led clients through countries across Africa, the Americas, and Asia.
Our goal is to offer unique, authentic, and unforgettable experiences from around the world. Our trips allow you to discover the people, history, nature, and culture of countries that are less traveled, yet all the more authentic. We focus on small groups of up to 10 people, allowing for a more personal approach to each client and a more intense experience for every participant.
Our mission is to organize unconventional expeditions to less-visited countries around the world, off the main tourist trails.
Mission
Martin
“I’ve been drawn to travel since childhood, but it all really started with my first trip to Austria in 1990. You have to realize that back then, traveling wasn’t really an option for most of us. Watching a completely different world pass by through the bus window was a massive shock — a world that had previously been hidden behind the Iron Curtain. I still remember the thrill and the urge to see, taste, and experience everything to the fullest. Today, Austria is just a regular country that we often speed right through, but back then, it felt as remote to me as Tonga does today.
Travel constantly expands my horizons. It fascinates me to show interest in a country, research about it, and then go experience it all firsthand. For me, traveling is a never-ending learning process. To borrow a line attributed to the prophet Muhammad: ‘Don’t tell me how educated you are; tell me how much you’ve traveled.’
It’s hard for me to answer which destination is closest to my heart. You could say almost all of them are. I don’t have a single favorite country, although I’m always strongly drawn to Afghanistan, Central Asia, or Africa. But the truth is, I’ll say something different every day, depending on what I’m in the mood for at the moment. Today, I’d love to visit South Korea again and grab some kimchi. And tomorrow, I might feel completely different.
A large part of my travel dreams has already come true. When I think back to little Navrátil, who 38 years ago dreamed of seeing Petra one day… today, everything that comes next is just a wonderful bonus. Still, I do have a few lingering desires — visiting the Kuril Islands and Franz Josef Land, and heading off to write my book, My Travel Story about traveling to Khiva, Uzbekistan.”
Peťo
“Travel is a lifelong passion of mine that was born out of a love for books. Even as a kid, I used to devour stories of distant lands under the blanket, longing to experience them firsthand — to feel the Arctic wind, the Saharan sand, and to sample the flavors of the world.
My first big milestone experience was Africa — the island of Mauritius, where I tried to explore off the beaten path. Travel has brought me freedom, knowledge, friendships, and the feeling that I’m living life to the fullest. It’s humanity’s oldest university — learning right where history was written.
Picking just one destination is impossible, but Afghanistan captured my soul — its secrets, the Silk Road, and the lives of the locals keep drawing me back. My next dream? To travel for as long as I am able, and to explore places like Sanaa in Yemen. Ultimately, though, it’s not just about taking off, but also making it back home.”
Jirko
“I’m a traveler, adventurer, photographer, maybe a little bit of a madman, and a huge fan and contributer to National Geographic, which has published a few of my photographs. I’ve traveled to more than 220 UN+ countries and territories.
Travel is probably in my genes — I inherited the passion from my grandmother, who loved exploring Europe. My first major milestone was a trip to the Soviet Union in 1980, which opened the door to adventure for me, and I haven’t lost that drive to travel since. Travel brings me knowledge, unforgettable experiences, and an adrenaline rush, while opening both my eyes and my heart.
It’s hard to pick a favorite destination, but the African continent has a special place in my heart for its untamed beauty and the peace of its natural landscape. My biggest dream, though, is Antarctica and both poles — unique places that you don’t get to experience every day.”
Nina
“I’m an adventurer drawn to off-the-beaten-path destinations. I’m fascinated by the authenticity of countries that others might find too wild or dangerous, but for me, that’s precisely where I can feel the true pulse of life. My traveling isn’t about chasing adrenaline; it’s about understanding the world in its rawest form.
I believe that travel should be about understanding, breaking down prejudices, and discovering that the most valuable perspective on the world is often found where you’d least expect it. My absolute favorite region has to be the Middle East.”
PETER
A well-known Slovak traveler who specializes in rarely visited conflict regions. In 2010, he hitchhiked from Istanbul to Cairo, visited Iraq multiple times, and traveled to Afghanistan under Taliban rule in 2023. He was the first white tourist in Somalia’s Jubbaland province since 1990.
In November 2018, together with Martin Juriš, he summitted Iraq’s highest peak — Cheekha Dar — making it the first Slovak ascent. He has also visited Hezbollah-controlled territory in Lebanon, war-torn Yemen, and Kurdish Rojava in Syria shortly after the fall of Bashar al-Assad’s regime.
He regularly lectures, blogs, and publishes in the media about his expeditions.
Tomáš
Tomáš is a guide who loves adventure, nature, and exploring the world. He prefers traveling authentically — often hitchhiking through remote regions where he can get closer to local people and their culture. He has traveled through West Africa, the South Caucasus, the Middle East, the mountains of Central Asia, India, and South America.
He is fascinated by the sacred sites of various religions and the unique stories tied to them. Rather than seeing himself as a typical traveler, he considers himself a collector of exceptional experiences — and those are precisely what he would love sharing with you.
You will mostly run into Tomáš on our tours in Central Asia and India — the places he truly loves.
Radovan
He sees travel as a way to connect with the world in its most authentic form. Most of his time is spent leading private tours and designing custom itineraries that reflect travelers’ individual dreams and interests. Over time, he has also grown fond of small group expeditions, where like-minded people with a shared passion for discovery come together.
He has traveled to diverse corners of the planet — from icy Greenland and the mysterious Easter Island to the mountains of Tibet and the wildness of African safaris — discovering the diversity of people, nature, and cultures along the way.
When traveling, he loves making connections, exploring new horizons, and discovering the stories that tie the world together into a unified whole.
